Rock climbing… like life. You can only focus on one step at a time. One. Step. You don’t usually focus on where you’ve been; but, instead focus on the next right hand or foot placement to get where you want to go. Watching him navigate this wall made me reflect on my life. The next right step. The next right step. Not always steady. Not always sure. But continuing the momentum and keep going anyway. Where am I headed? If I focus on all the hand and foot placements at the same time – I freeze – I get flooded – overwhelmed – it’s too much. But when I settle on one next right step at a time….when I focus on the present….when I feel secure enough to boost myself up to the next level, bit by bit….. that’s all it takes. You don’t have to ruminate on where you’ve been to get where you’re going – it’s ingrained – innate – part of you. Your history. Your story. Cellularly. It’s already programmed in. The lessons. The wisdom. All of it. Is there. No rumination needed. No need to stress about where you’ve been. Or focus on the things that got you to where you are. They are already part of you. Focus on the next steps. The next right step. Baby. Big. Tiptoe. Leap. Jump. It doesn’t matter. Trust that your experience and your magic live nestled inside the core of who you are. You have the exact right skills necessary to take the next step. Trust yourself. The only way is up from here.
