Oh, Fall! Fall is here. I can tell by the brisk air. The smell of pumpkin and earth. The sound of leaves crunching while little feet walk. This sound is so characteristic of Autumn. I wanted to incorporate it in our sensory time – without using real leaves which would rot and decay while shelved […]

Acorn Hunt

We made these in the Summer, but Fish…and I thought they would make a beautiful addition to our autumn decorations. I was right. They are so beautiful. We just used clear contact paper and covered it with tissue squares; added a piece of contact paper on top; and cut out a leaf shape. When you […]

Leaf Mosaics

Here are the books you will find on our shelves this Season…

Fall Book List

We played with this stuff in the project room at the Please Touch Museum and had to buy some before we left. A whole new texture to playdough – it’s supposed to never dry out. Buga has been enjoying this new textural medium immensely. It’s kind of therapeutic to mush and mash.

Floam

With the transformation of our butterflies we wanted to do an art project to celebrate. These coffee filter butterflies turned out to be a great example of process art…and totally whimsically cute finished. Buga loved spraying the spray bottle and watching the ink drip drop and slide. Simply beautiful. Here she is….intense…working on her creations. […]

Coffee Filter Butterflies

I made these for one of our bug themed learning centers. Buga has a really good sense for numbers for a three year old and this reinforces one-to-one ratios, counting, and numeral recognition.

Ladybug Counting

Every time we go to the park Buga yearns to meet “friends” to play with. When she sees little people her age playing she gets so excited: “Mama, Mama…Look! There are lots of friends at the park to play with!” I am not the biggest extrovert, that’s for sure, but she reminds me how easy […]

Friends

So simple a project I am sure everyone has seen, but it was suiting with our live caterpillars we are watching mature. So we make “caterpillars” out of egg cartons. I love how intense Buga looks as she paints her little guy.

Caterpillars

I am always trying to come up with ways Buga can help me in the kitchen. She loves cooking – and eating – and I find that when she participates in cooking, she is more likely to eat our creations. It’s a great way to teach beginning food Science, and Math while having fun and […]
