Lincoln loves glue. #loves . Like, love loves. He likes to squeeze it. To touch it. Smoosh it. Smear it. Sometimes taste it. Squeezing the glue bottle is such a great fine motor skill builder – he is building up the strength in his hands. I cut a square of cardboard and let him […]

Glue. Messes. And letting go.

Lincoln couldn’t get enough of this invitation. He played and squeezed until it was gone and then wanted more. So we emptied and reloaded and he works again. Until we had no more baking soda. <3 #MamaMayiCreate #MamaMayiLearn #MamaMayi #MamaMayiShop #Montessori #Montessori101 #kidsart #kidscience #unplugged #childhood #totschool #preschool #lifelonglearner #unschool #homeschool

Baking Soda and Vinegar Toddler Color Mixing Invitation

I made it to Grandma’s house this week to get inventory under control and while we were hanging out [playing] in the new stock room the kids were pulling out products from their bins and playing. And Lincoln (almost 2) found the Balance Balls. At first he was content to grab each bag (packaged) and […]

Friday Featured Product – Balance Balls

It’s Sensory Bin Time! Oh how I love the open-endedness of a sensory bin. I love how many different skills can be practiced with a little bit of imagination and a box of “stuff”. I always enjoy creating these things, it’s a lot of fun for me to make and then I love watching how […]

Autumn Sensory Bin

We are always looking for ways to incorporate our themes into our art projects. We recently decided to make an under the sea “mural” on our door using different methods of expression for different creatures in the deep. We are learning about the beach and ocean now, as a prelude to our trip to the […]

Tissue Paper Fish

Every time we go to the park Buga yearns to meet “friends” to play with. When she sees little people her age playing she gets so excited: “Mama, Mama…Look! There are lots of friends at the park to play with!” I am not the biggest extrovert, that’s for sure, but she reminds me how easy […]

Friends

So simple a project I am sure everyone has seen, but it was suiting with our live caterpillars we are watching mature. So we make “caterpillars” out of egg cartons. I love how intense Buga looks as she paints her little guy.

Caterpillars

Such a simple past time. I remember saving bits and pieces of bread…crusty, old, moldy, new, it didn’t matter, to feed the ducks. I don’t know what makes this activity so appealing or peaceful, but they have always been both for me. Here Buga enjoys the same simple pleasures in life with her older cousin […]

Feeding the Ducks

Our caterpillars formed Chrysalides in their Pupal stage of development. They stay in this stage for 7-10 days, growing wings, before they emerge as butterflies.

Chrysalides

Recently one of Buga’s friends had a “Construction” themed birthday party. I always try to include her in the process of thinking about what someone else would like as a present (a task difficult for 3-year-olds); “writing” or drawing in birthday, thank you, and thinking of you cards, as well as baking special occasion cakes. […]
